The major energy business opportunities conference, eboc'11, which took place this week in West Cumbria, has been heralded a huge success by organisers, delegates and exhibitors alike.
A major energy company was quick to congratulate the events speaker programme, exhibition and networking opportunity, describing eboc'11 as 'The best conference of the year'!
The event, organised by private sector led Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster to promote future business opportunities across the nuclear and renewable energy sectors, attracted delegates from large and small energy businesses, filling the 200 seat main auditorium. The eboc'11 business to business exhibition was a hub of activity with more than 40 stands, and the conference networking dinner also a sell out.
A full programme of high-profile speakers was led by a video address from Lord Marland, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The keynote speech on Day 2 from world renowned energy expert Malcolm Grimston, of Chatham House entitled The UK Energy Picture - Challenges And Opportunities was worth the wait.
eboc'11 was succesful in bringing together world-class suppliers and businesses to provide market intelligence on local, national and international opportunities. It encouraged the exchange of ideas and provided advice to supply chain companies wishing to diversify beyond nuclear and into other energy sectors.
The conference was supported by a number of organisations, including Nuclear Management Partners, West Cumbria Development Agency and Invest in Cumbria. Britain's Energy Coast Business Cluster and eboc'11 would like to thank them and all the companies involved in the event; particularly, Gold Sponsors Amec; Doosan Babcock;URS, Silver Sponsors University of Manchester Dalton Nuclear Institute; Nugeneration; plus Pactec; Direct Rail Services; Tata Steel; Balfour Beatty; and James Fisher Nuclear.
Jonathan Marshall Partner, Head of Construction and Engineering, Burnett's Solicitors and Chairman of Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster Management Board explains:
“Following the success of our first eboc event in 2009 I am delighted in the overwhelming support and interest this year. Two years on, local businesses are now successfully competing for opportunities in the energy industry. This conference demonstrates the enthusiasm and commitment of the private sector to help drive forward investment and development of energy business in West Cumbria.”
“Demand for energy from all sources is continuing to rise and we need to respond by producing more. eboc’11 has identified national and international support for energy production on the West Coast of Cumbria. The amount of investment involved promises to be massive and local companies need to engage with the developers to make sure they are able to take advantage of opportunities. We have the skills and capabilities within the Energy Coast supply chain for a major share of the work.”
Gary McKeating Head of Socio-Economics, Nuclear Management Partners and Chairman of the eboc'11 organising committee, adds:
“West Cumbria, through the Britain’s Energy Coast initiative, can help the UK meet its tough climate change targets and secure future energy supplies. Our expertise in nuclear and the commitment to new build means West Cumbria is well placed to prosper in this sector and also capitalise on opportunities in wind, biomass, tidal and solar. Here we can provide a true energy mix and our conference helps drive this vision forward.”
