Fukashima - Createc’s Innovative Surveying Solutions

This talk will cover Createc's innovative use of  ROV robotic platforms for plant inspection to radiation surveying at Fukushima. The talk discuss how these platforms keep people at a safe distance while allowing the collection of vital data and how the fusion of software, electronics and mechanical engineering enables robotics. With a focus on real systems, such as the RISER (Remote Intelligent Survey Equipment for Radiation) UAV, developed by Createc and BlueBear Systems, the talk will cover the challenges of giving a mechanical device a nervous system and a brain allowing it to understand the world it occupies and perform tasks which humans can’t or don’t want to.

Light refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) will be available from registration at 18:30hrs.

Ashley Napier is a Research Associate at Createc, a research and development company based in Cockermouth, Cumbria. His main focus is the development of new robotic perception and planning algorithms, which allow machines to understand their environment and assist an operator or act independently.
