STEM Education in Cumbria

The huge planned infrastructure spend in the county over the next 15 years, combined with the shortages of young people both regionally and nationally who are taking STEM subjects from the ages of 5-18, has led to a myriad of attempts to encourage young people to study and seek work in the major industries located or locating in Cumbria in the advanced technology and science sectors.

The conference is designed to look at current initiatives and to facilitate discussion of “what works” to attract children and young people to study, train, live and work in the advanced technology and science sectors in Cumbria and beyond. The conference will also be an opportunity to hear about an initiative to establish a Cumbria Education Centre for Advanced Technology and Science (CECATS) to bring together a range of these activities for young people from 5-18.
