Howgill Family Centre works to improve the lives of children, families and their communities in Copeland.
Howgill is a very well established local charity founded in the late 1970’s.It has a strong reputation, with service users, communities and other agencies, for providing excellent services and support. We have centres in and around Whitehaven, Cleator Moor, Egremont and Millom.
Howgill has recently lost the Cumbria County Council contract for Early Help and running Children’s Centres so will be based from January 2020 in Cleator Moor, Whitehaven, Mirehouse and Kells. We have over 30 members of staff. Building up the charity will be a priority as we move forward.
Howgill is a registered charity governed by unpaid volunteer Trustees. Trustees are looking to recruit outstanding individuals to strengthen governance by widening the range of skills and experience on the Board. Particular skills being sought include Early Years, Business skills, PR, Health & Safety and Marketing, although these are not exclusive. Experience, expertise and enthusiasm are what we are looking for. Having an open mind, a willingness to pitch in wherever needed and a positive attitude will help you to make a contribution to Howgill.
The rewards are the satisfaction of overseeing an organisation that is making a positive difference to the lives of thousands of children and families in the area, many of whom are disadvantaged or vulnerable. All Trustees are therefore required to hold an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Certificate that Howgill will arrange.
