Representatives of over 70 BECBC member companies, as well as several guests involved in the nuclear decommissioning sector, gathered at Ansaldo Nuclear’s Egremont facilities (Cumbria) last week (20 March 2018) for the quarterly Nuclear Engagement Sector Group meeting.
Speakers included Howard Dixon, Divisional MD for Waste Management and Decommissioningat Ansaldo Nuclear, Simon Martin andSteve Dixon for Sellafield Ltd and Tom Crowe from LLW Repository. After presentations and networking, visitors also had anopportunity to see for themselves the scale and scope of the Ansaldo rig hall and pond.
“This is the highest rig in Cumbria at 34 metres high,” said Howard Dixon, “and the pond adds another 6 metres of depth. Add to that a 60 tonne crane set up and the expertise on our team and we can offer tremendous support to decommissioning projects, all based just a mile or so from the gates of Sellafield Ltd. We realised that not all those who should know are aware that we’re here and that there is this potential for local testing and planning. We hope that hosting the BECBC Sector Group meeting will have made a big difference and that word will now spread about just how Ansaldo Nuclear, its facilities and its people can offer tremendous support to the decommissioning agenda.”
