AppFit Blog - another successful event for BECBC Shadow Board

AppFit Blog by Jason Savage, Event Organiser for BECBC Shadow Board

“Although I’ve had a lot of people ask if they can download AppFit, it’s not an App (yet). AppFit is the brand I’ve created along with the Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC) Shadow Board to help young people in Cumbria get FIT for their APPrenticeship. Many young people would make great apprentices but just don’t have the specific skills required to fill in an Application Form, complete an Aptitude Test or pass an Interview – so why not give them those skills and level the playing field for everyone?

AppFit is the vehicle to deliver this advice and materialised as an event on Saturday 11 January 2020 where 91 young people took part in sessions giving them knowledge and experience on the application process, facilitated networking with 16 employers/training providers showcasing what they have to offer in Cumbria and table top sessions where they could chat to former apprentices, young professionals and recruitment specialists.

AppFit was a success with some great feedback from both attendees and partnered employers which included: ARUP, Balfour Beatty, Capula, Centre for Leadership Performance, Copeland Borough Council, Cumbria LEP, Energus, IDS, Inspira, Jacobs, Kaefer, KBR, NNL, React Engineering, Responsive Ltd, Rosehill Theatre, Sellafield Ltd, Wood with training providers Carlisle College, Gen2 and Lakes College.

Peter Handley, Business Development Manager at Capula said “I thought AppFit went very well with a great turn! I spoke to a couple of real potential apprentices so hopefully they will follow up and we can support them into a career“.

AppFit will return for the next run of apprenticeships late 2020/early 2021.
