Rob Ward, a BECBC Shadow Board member, has been elected as Chair of the YGN:
"As I step in as chair of the YGN, I am proud to be surrounded by committed and enthusiastic people who share my drive to encourage, inspire and develop the UK’s young nuclear professionals. At a time of renewed focus on the need to decarbonise our energy production, there is a new impetus for the nuclear industry to provide low-carbon, firm power. But our sector faces a significant challenge: attraction and retention of a skilled and knowledgeable workforce to support nuclear new build, civil nuclear decommissioning and defence. This is where the YGN can help and I look forward to leading the branch during this nuclear renaissance – 2020 is the year that the UK will rediscover nuclear.
As a member of the BECBC Shadow Board, this feels like an opportunity to join up the work of the YGN with the needs of the cluster of nuclear businesses in Cumbria. The YGN offers personal and professional development opportunities and a route to professional membership and registration with the Nuclear Institute. I would encourage apprentices, graduates and those in the earlier stages of their career to become members of the YGN and get involved in our community. The YGN is always looking to work with organisations to progress the skills and EDI agenda and we are keen to speak to potential Industry Partners who could support us in continuing our mission."
