Hargreaves (a BECBC member), a world-leading provider of complete ventilation solutions, has scooped three industry awards in one week. The company won two high-profile BESA awards at the trade organisation’s first ever national awards, alongside a prestigious national HVR award.
Lewis Buchanan, Trainee Project Engineer at the company, landed the top prize at the BESA awards for national apprentice of the year, alongside the HVR award for trainee of the year, after facing stiff competition in both categories. Andy Gowing, Construction Manager, collected a BESA award for his outstanding work as a BESA trailblazer.
Since joining Hargreaves, at the age of 16, as a fabricating and welding apprentice, Lewis has crafted his skills over 4 years, across a wide variety of roles and is now heavily involved in project development, particularly on the specialist Farringdon station Crossrail scheme.
Andy Gowing, who has worked at Hargreaves for over 17 years, picked up his award after his work in tirelessly assisting writing a new curriculum for the latest BESA accredited Building Services Engineering (BSE) Ductwork Installer apprentice scheme, due to be rolled out in January 2018.
Throughout his time at Hargreaves, Andy has been developing the skill set of apprentices within the company, guiding a host of young engineers throughout their careers in ductwork manufacturing and engineering.
Andy Sneyd, Managing Director at Hargreaves, said: “We are delighted that Lewis and Andy have been commended in such an esteemed industry events, as a result of their excellent work for the company. At Hargreaves, we pride ourselves in nurturing the engineering talent of tomorrow and this is reflected with the awards, all of which fall under the apprenticeships banner.
“We also believe in the value that apprentices provide to the company, that’s why you will find our young talent at some of our largest and most high-profile projects such as the Crossrail underground projects, Chernobyl New Safe Confinement and Sellafield.”
