BECBC March 2020 Member Meeting Report
The BECBC Member Meeting welcomed Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland. The Mayor emphasised the need for continued collaboration between businesses and councils. He underlined the need to apply a business approach when managing public organisations so as to create additional value for communities. He also encouraged BECBC members to get involved and make a difference to Cumbria at a time which he described as “the precipice of the greatest opportunity to come to this county”.
The PPP Social Impact and Supply Chain Update by Dianne Richardson and Steve Dixon underlined the importance social impact strategies will have in the tender process going forward.
The positive atmosphere in the room gave credit to the morning’s talks, in particular, the 3x3 presentations by Athena, Lakes Electric Delivery Service (LEDS), Rosehill Theatre, Inspira and Workington Derwent Rotary Club.
Donna Connor presented an update on the BECBC Social Value Delivery Group and the BSCP (Business and Schools Collaboration Project) and encouraged members to play an active role in the interaction with schools through financial sponsorship and the giving of their time. Donations can be made online.
The BECBC Business Awards 2020 Entry Packs were launched by Tom Scaife, the BECBC Board Lead and past Award winner. Entries are now open for 8 of the 10 Awards that will be presented at the Awards Dinner on 19 November 2020 at Energus. Sellafield Ltd are the main event sponsor and there has been a tremendous response to support the event already with all Awards now sponsored too by ADAPT, Carr’s Engineering, Doosan Babcock, Morgan Sindall, NIS Limited, NNL, Orano, Solomons Europe and Wood. PacTec EPS and Fluid Productions are also confirmed as sponsors, but there are still other sponsorship opportunities available. Full details, including Sponsorship and Entry Pack downloads, are available online.
Finally, the Board thanked Alison Johnston from Dodd & Co, who has worked with BECBC for more than 10 years providing financial oversight and serving as a BECBC Board Member, for her outstanding support. Andrew Clitheroe, Group Head of Business Finance for Carr’s Group, was introduced as the new BECBC Treasurer.
The next BECBC Member Meeting will include the AGM on 1 April 2020. Attendees were reminded that only fully paid up members can vote at the AGM!
