Can you support the BECBC Business and Schools Collaboration Project?

BECBC Social Value Delivery Group
Support for the Business and Schools Collaboration Project (BSCP)

Donna Connor, Group Lead, is calling on members for support for the award-winning BECBC Business and Schools Collaboration Project (BCSP).

Recent events make this project even more important. A recent survey has identified a number of ways that Covid-19 has impacted our children. Many young people:

  • Feel that everywhere is ‘closed’, there is no point in thinking about what is going to happen next
  • Fear and have concern about examination results
  • Have anxiety about opportunities being withdrawn; fewer options available

The need for Employer engagement work is needed more than ever to help keep our young people stay motivated and positive.

In 2019, 26 BECBC member organisations supported the BECBC Social Value Delivery Group to the sum of £50k, which funds the BSCP.

This enabled 130 companies, 325 individual volunteers to carry out 526 visits into school, contributing 1,315 voluntary hours. This meant that 9,300 students participated across all 15 secondary schools across Copeland and Allerdale.

In a national report published by the Careers and Enterprise Company, students in the Cumbria area came top of the list when measuring the number of “encounters with employers” with 64.9% of schools achieving the benchmark 5 encounters or more. The national average for this benchmark is 38.3%. This is a fantastic achievement, but I know we can do even better with your continued support. This brokerage across all year groups and all schools goes some way to ensuring fair access to local employer engagement for all students, and we can target those with the greatest need.

Finally, a huge thank you to our current funders for your continuing support in making a difference to our young people across Copeland and Allerdale through supporting the BECBC Business and Schools Collaboration Programme (BSCP). We can only make this happen due to the co-funding that comes from the BECBC members.
