How can e-Networking with BECBC help you? Members share their experiences and explain the benefits they gained

After the last BECBC e-Networking event on 10 Feb 2021, three BECBC members shared with me what benefits they had got out of taking time to network with us online:

Today I took part in one of the e-networking sessions organised by BECBC. My motivation for doing so was part curiosity and a nagging feeling that something was missing from my COVID isolated daily business activities.

As the time approached to participate, I had a strong urge to skip the session due to other pressing deadlines, but I’m glad that I didn’t. The session I joined was unexpectedly low in attendees (5 in total – including our host Hazel – busily multi-tasking, as usual) and I feared that we might struggle to keep a conversation going for the allotted hour.

I needn’t have worried – a wide ranging and stimulating conversation soon flowed and useful insights gleaned along with understanding others business’s and current hot topics (ie West Cumbria Coal Mine, Steel in the UK, Net Zero, Tidal Energy Prototyping, amongst others). No one pushed their own agenda and the session actually overran. It was stimulating, friendly and a fun, mood-lifting experience that had the added benefit of strengthening business connections. Stuff you pick up in these type of encounters can often be more useful than specific focussed events – as they bring diverse information and perspectives along with new connections that would never have occurred otherwise.

Consequently, we are now in the process of qualifying a new supplier and have awareness of a possible project on the horizon that may have a need for our specific Control Systems Engineering expertise. I would recommend giving these sessions a try if you haven’t already

“BECBC e-Networking session today delivered positive, constructive discussions and enabled me to network effectively and efficiently with contacts that I had not had the opportunity to do so before. I will be continuing attending these online meetings as they deliver value and good contacts."
Lee Nicklin, Steel Dynamics

"Many thanks for today’s meeting! It was a good exchange of conversations and views with like-minded members this morning. While it is good to discuss areas of concern it is the best format to network and is disappointing that others don’t register for this opportunity. It’s a bit like having a coffee a Energus and sharing what you do with the person you are next in the queue for a coffee with – until you speak you are never sure if the next 10 minutes you could find a friend or a friend of a friend that may be able to help you in your quest.

I have always found those we network with, either on Zoom or in person, is the start of a special relationship that may develop for the benefit for both, as everyone has a genuine interest to help each other, so more of the same from BECBC for me please!"
Stephen Shepherd, Camerton Consultants

The next e-Networking sessions are scheduled for 10.30am to 11.30am on:

  • Wed 24 March 2021
  • Wed 31 March 2021

Zoom joining links and Meeting ID will be included in weekly member emails.
