John McGibbon announced as new Chair for BECBC’s Nuclear Engagement Sector Group
John McGibbon, Managing Director for PaR Systems Ltd, has been appointed as new Chair for BECBC’s Nuclear Engagement Sector Group.
John manages all UK operations for PaR Systems and has spent the past four years growing the business from a very humble start. He has been a member of BECBC throughout this time and says:” Being part of BECBC has been instrumental in helping us grow our business. It is time now to give back and to help a wider set of businesses connect with the Nuclear Engagement Sector Group and realise more business. I am looking forward to building on the excellent work done by my predecessor, Liz Bowe. My aim will be to attract an even more diverse range of people to help drive more opportunities for smaller businesses in the local supply chain.”
John’s experience in Nuclear has been very broadly spread across the industry with significant experience of decommissioning gained at Sellafield’s legacy ponds, scientific analysis with the National Nuclear Laboratory and through playing a key role in a wide variety of construction, manufacturing and process development projects.
“We are delighted to appoint John McGibbon as Chair of the Nuclear Engagement Sector Group. John brings a wealth of business experience to the table and, as Managing Director for PAR Systems, is heavily involved in the nuclear supply chain. He has been a member of BECBC for several years and understands the importance of helping our members engage with this competitive industry. His enthusiasm, know-how and ability to think outside of the proverbial box, will help drive innovation and growth within this group.”, Ivan Baldwin, Chair, Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster.
John follows in the footsteps of Liz Bowe. “We are very grateful for Liz’s work so far, her drive and continued commitment to see member businesses of all sizes succeed. John will be taking over a very strong group and we look forward to working with him on developing this even further.” Dianne Richardson, Member Engagement Director, BECBC.
John started out as an apprentice engineer back in 1997 where he cut his teeth in the paper industry, being promoted to the role of Engineering Manager by the age of 23 and responsible for the largest pulpmill and woodyard in the UK. John studied part time through his apprenticeship to achieve ONC, HNC and HND in Plant Engineering and followed this with a BSc in Project Management from Leeds Metropolitan University. His career has developed into people management and business where he has led teams of engineers and scientists in pulp and paper, rubber and plastics and now in Nuclear.
Since joining PaR Systems in 2015, John has developed his specialism in remote handling equipment, robotics and nuclear cranes and has grown a business from 4 employees to a current 22 focused on the decommissioning and plant life extension opportunities in the UK Nuclear Industry.
The first BECBC Nuclear Engagement Sector Group meeting led by John will take place in February 2020.
