CFM’s Cash for Kids in your Community

Message from Katie Jones, Charity Manager - CFM Cash for Kids:

Yesterday we launched an emergency appeal to help those families who need it most across Cumbria and South West Scotland.

Many families already living in or on the brink of poverty before the outbreak of Coronavirus, will be feeling the extreme pressure being amplified by; those on low incomes or zero hour contracts facing a reduction in work availability, placing huge pressure on their personal finances.

Businesses are facing closure either temporarily or permanently, putting many workers at risk of not being able to pay the bills at home.

Many families rely on free school meals, and as most schools have now closed for the exception of children of key workers, we know families will struggle to feed their kids without support.

The Cash for Kids Appeal kindly supported by Stagecoach, which runs until 8 April, will build a fund from which grants will help families cover basic essentials such as food and heating. We will grant £35 a head which would pay for a child’s lunch for two weeks. School teachers, health professionals, social workers and small charitable groups will be able to apply for funds on behalf of the families they support - validating the need and distributing the funds.

What we need you to do:

  • Please help us spread the word that we want to help local families right now, and direct people to our website for more information.
  • You can also help by sharing our social media posts and stories.
  • Donations can be made on our website at cfmradio.co.uk/appeal and also by texting ‘CFM’ to 70910 which donates £10 (+1msg cost).
  • If you have any ideas on how to access other funding, please let me know.

A small act of kindness can make a huge difference to families in need here in Cumbria and South West Scotland, and we know we can rely on you to help us achieve this goal.

If you have any questions or want to chat, I am just at the end of an email, phone, text or social media message. I have also attached a press release for your info.

Thank you and stay safe.
