Emergency Christmas Hamper Appeal - Howgill Family Centre

Posted by Hazel Duhy on

We have recevied a request for support from TraceyNewbold of the Howgill Family Centre:

"I am looking for some help fundraising for our Emergency Christmas Hamper appeal. We aim to provide 100 hampers to local families in the Copeland area, recognised as having children aged 0-12 years living in poverty. Support is given by Howgill to families in poverty which include households with an income that is 50 % of mean household income.

We also use the Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI) which looks at the following areas.

  • Income Deprivation
  • Employment Deprivation
  • Education, Skills and Training Deprivation
  • Health Deprivation and Disability
  • Crime
  • Barriers to Housing and Services
  •  Living Environment Deprivation

The staff at Howgill Family Centre work with families throughout the year, supporting them to improve outcomes in the above areas. The hampers are given as part of the continuous support that Howgill offer and also in emergency situations during the festive period. The hampers can help families from getting into debt and therefore has a positive contribution to aiding families in improving outcomes for their children.

We fill the hampers with fairly staple items of food and a few luxury items and this year will cost £40.00 each. We aim to make up 100 of them and need £4000.00 to do this. CFM Cash for Kids and Tesco Christmas Tree appeal have agreed to provide us with toys this year to ensure no child will be without a gift at Christmas. We would love to be able to make sure they have food on the table too.

Please would you consider helping us raise the funds?"
