Forth and Austwick Media: A BECBC networking success

A brief conversation at a BECBC Energy Networx event sparked a business relationship between two cluster members, with that early support helping one company accelerate its growth. The partnership between Austwick Media Ltd and Forth is a clear example of the power of purposeful networking.

Brian and Nikkie Austwick joined BECBC in March 2025, looking to build connections and raise the profile of their photography business. It was at a cluster meeting that they met Ken Johnston of Forth, who quickly saw potential for collaboration.

“My approach to networking is simple - focus on what we can do for others, not what they can do for us,” says Ken. “Helping Brian and Nikkie build confidence and visibility was the starting point for something bigger.”

Over the months, Ken introduced the Austwicks to fellow BECBC members and invited them to support Forth’s Summer Open Day. Brian provided photography for the event, pro bono, showcasing his skills while gaining valuable exposure. He later covered Forth’s 25th Birthday Celebration Fundraiser and contributed to charitable projects with Goodlives West Cumbria.

“Being trusted with these projects gave us real confidence,” says Brian. “It wasn’t just about taking photos. It was about being part of the team and delivering value.”

The collaboration quickly extended beyond the cluster. Ken introduced Brian to in-Cumbria magazine, which led to a commissioned shoot with the directors of Carlisle United. One of Brian’s images even appeared on the magazine cover, a first for the business.

Alongside these opportunities, Austwick Media received mentoring and business guidance from Mark Telford, CEO of Forth. Brian credits this support with helping shape the business strategy and build confidence for future growth.

“Mark encouraged us to think bigger. To see ourselves not just as photographers, but as a full media partner,” says Brian.

This guidance and experience led to a significant development in 2026. Brian Austwick Photography rebranded as Austwick Media Ltd, expanding its services to include video production, drone services and brand storytelling.

“BECBC has shown the impact of genuine collaboration,” says Ken. “By supporting one another, members create opportunities that benefit everyone.”

Today, Austwick Media enjoys increased visibility, higher-quality client enquiries and deeper engagement across Cumbria’s business community, all rooted in the connections made through BECBC.

“Seeing others succeed gives me huge satisfaction,” Ken adds. “When you focus on helping others, the rewards naturally follow.”

The partnership between Forth and Austwick Media demonstrates how networking, mentoring and collaboration within BECBC can translate into tangible business growth and long-term relationships.
