Trawsfynydd Power Station Height Reduction Project - Meet The Buyer Event

Cyngor Gwynedd is hosting a Meet the Buyer event to connect local businesses with Costain, the principal contractor managing the deconstruction and height reduction of two reactor buildings at Trawsfynydd Power Station.

This in-person event is an opportunity for businesses of all sizes, including sole traders and SMEs, to learn more about upcoming contracting, subcontracting and wider supply chain opportunities linked to this major, long-term project in Gwynedd.

The Trawsfynydd project represents a significant investment in the local area and will:

  • Create more than 100 skilled jobs
  • Support regional prosperity through skills development
  • Reduce the visual impact of the reactor buildings on the Eryri National Park landscape

Work is expected to take place over several years, with opportunities across a wide range of construction, engineering and supporting services.

Why attend?

Attendees will hear directly from Costain about the project, their requirements and approach to working with suppliers, before having the chance to network and discuss opportunities informally.

This event will give you the chance to:

  • Hear directly from Costain about the Trawsfynydd Power Station project
  • Learn about work opportunities over the duration of the programme
  • Understand what Costain looks for when engaging with local suppliers and contractors
  • Explore where your business - whatever its size and sector - could fit into the supply chain
  • Network with Costain representatives and other local businesses in one place
  • Access one-to-one discussions with Costain and other representatives, with slots available to book on the evening itself

You’ll also be able to speak with Busnes@Gwynedd, Business Wales, M-SParc and representatives from the Wales Nuclear Forum for wider business advice, support and guidance.

Who should attend?

This event is aimed at local and regional businesses interested in working at the Trawsfynydd site, including those operating across:

  • Construction, civils and engineering
  • Specialist trades and subcontracting
  • Plant, equipment and site services
  • Logistics, transport, health & safety and environmental support
  • Professional, testing, training and specialist support services

Opportunities span both core construction activity and a wide range of supporting services such as site services, equipment hire, materials supply, environmental and safety provision, catering and logistics.

You do not necessarily need prior experience of working on nuclear sites to attend or take part in discussions – come along and see what opportunities are open to you.

Agenda:

  • 5:00pm: Presentations from Costain
  • 5:30pm - 7:30pm: Networking
  • 7:30pm - 8:00pm: Q&A panel

Light refreshments will be provided.

Cyngor Gwynedd’s Employment and Training team, Gwaith Gwynedd, will also be hosting a corresponding Employment Fair at the same venue on Tuesday 10 March 2026, aimed at individuals seeking local job and career opportunities linked to the project.
