Think of us as property developers with a difference. Whether we’re renovating a building, looking for projects in the community, or regenerating an entire town, we keep sustainable building and a low carbon agenda front of mind. That’s our ‘Golden Thread’ and it runs through everything we do.
We combine our knowledge in the arena of sustainable development with a responsible business approach and a drive to build extraordinary communities and generate valuable local regeneration. By working in partnership with local and national stakeholders to support projects that will bring sustained transformation, we are often able to take on undervalued sites that require strategic and creative thinking to turn them into viable developments.
Crucially, we’re not just about construction. We also own and operate business parks and commercial premises across Cumbria, creating spaces that inspire people in their working day and drive growth in organisations from start-ups to major international companies. BEC is owned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Copeland and Allerdale Borough Council and Cumbria County Council, and we work closely with several local partners including Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership. And while we’re proud of our Cumbrian roots, we’re always looking for opportunities where we can bring positive change further afield.
Our Property Developments
An exciting regeneration plan that will bring new life to Whitehaven’s harbour area, North Shore is an ambitious, sustainable proposal. With plans currently under consultation for a four-star hotel, a modern office building, food and drink offerings, a buzzing innovation centre and much more, this development is looking to set new standards in urban regeneration.
Our Commercial Property Portfolio
Westlakes Science Park
Set in rolling parkland and featuring an architecturally-diverse mix of buildings around a vibrant, community hub, we’re proud to say that the park is home to some of Europe’s brightest minds and most dynamic businesses. Already a cutting-edge development, we have even bigger plans for Westlakes. We’re looking to take it off-grid for all its electricity requirements, by developing a microgrid that will generate and store electricity from renewable sources.
Blencathra Business Centre
An attractive collection of stone-built properties set in a rural location, Blencathra offers a flexible mix of office, warehouse and light industrial business premises. Many of the units feature mezzanine floors and views over the Fells, and there is a strong sense of community among the local business owners. Located within a small village in the National Park, the centre enjoys excellent links to Keswick (four miles), the A66 and the nearby M6 motorway (Junction 40).
Moss Bay House
A busy industrial estate with good links to Workington and Carlisle, Moss Bay is located in the heart of Cumbria’s industrial coast. BEC’s sites on the estate are a mix of light industrial units and offices, some with shared meeting spaces. There is good parking across the site. Moss Bay is well served by local facilities, with nearby supermarkets and services, and is a strategic local base for small and growing businesses.
