The CIPD as we know it today started life in 1913 as the Welfare Workers’ Association (WWA). We have been helping people and organisations realise their potential ever since, and today we are the voice of a worldwide community of around 150,000 members.
We first became known as the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in 2000, when we were granted a Royal Charter. Today we are known simply as the CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development.
We are a group of volunteers from across HR and People Development. Our ‘vision’ is to engage fully with local business leaders and CIPD members within Cumbria, supporting your professional development needs, sharing knowledge and good practice, encouraging continuous learning and development and facilitating networking opportunities across the County.
With just over 550 members we cover all of Cumbria, from Barrow in the South to the Scottish border in the North and from Maryport in the West to Appleby in the East (plus all points in between!)
