Gen2 was established in June 2000 by five international companies from within the Engineering, Nuclear, and Advanced Manufacturing sectors, who have major operations in the region; AMEC Foster Wheeler, Sellafield Ltd, Tata Steel Products, Iggesund Paperboard and Innovia Films. In May 2017 Gen2 was acquired by the City & Guilds Group.
Gen2 currently has 6 training and skills centres distributed across Cumbria and over 140 employees, the vast majority of which are direct delivery staff.
Gen2 are approved providers for two national skills academies and have developed many higher level programmes to meet the needs of industry including the suite of nuclear related degree programmes. The quality of teaching and learning is a key company driver, leading to Gen2 being awarded an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ Grade 1 in 2011 which remains in place to date.
Collaborative working is a fundamental part of Gen2’s ethos. Gen2 worked intensively on trailblazer projects for the development of new apprentice standards as well continued working with our academic partners to develop a suite of industry driven degree level programmes
Gen2 currently works with over 350 national and international clients delivering a broad range of programmes from Level 2 study programmes to Level 7 Modules. Many of these programmes have been developed specifically for employers or in response to Government initiatives in the skills arena.
In developing programmes for local, national and international clients, Gen2 proactively seeks out delivery partners thus enhancing its own capability. In all aspects of developing programmes, Gen2 responds to the needs to the client in delivering to time, quality and cost.
Gen2 has approximately 1,350 Apprentices in learning and 300 higher education students. In addition, we deliver 10,000 delegates days of short course training per annum covering areas such as nuclear, engineering, health and safety, project management and business.
