Sir Robert McAlpine have a long and distinguished relationship with the UK’s Civil Nuclear industry. Sir Robert McAlpine was responsible for the civil design of thirteen of the UK’s current fleet of Nuclear Power stations and the civil construction of six. In recent years our nuclear activities have been concentrated at Sellafield and assisting British Energy with life extension of its AGR fleet. Our design group are currently supporting Coyne-et-Bellier on Flamanville 3 in France and Taishan in China. At Sellafield the Company have had a continuous presence since July 1983 during which time we have delivered 80 projects.
Sir Robert McAlpine are currently involved in a number of major motorway construction, maintenance and operation projects across the U.K, including M1 widening, M74 Glasgow, A19 and M74 Maintenance Moffat.
Commercial and Retail
Sir Robert McApline have been involved in many landmark developments across to UK including Gateshead Metro, The Bullring in Birmingham, White River Place in St Austell and Bristol’s largest city centre regeneration programme since the war, Cabot Circus provides 120 shops including 15 major flagship stores in 90,000m2 of retail and leisure space. Featuring a spectacular glass roof over its central area, the complex includes more than 25 restaurants, a 13-screen Cinema de Lux and a 2,600-space car park.
Sir Robert McApline As part of Building Schools for the Future, we handed over five new schools on the same day as part of a PFI project for Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council. We designed, built and delivered three fully operational schools for Fife Council in less than two years. In addition other schools have been delivered throughout the UK. Construction is underway at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester which will provide state-of-the-art facilities for pupils and we are constructing an innovative new five-storey building for Glasgow School of Art. The new building will house a range of studios and teaching facilities as well as workshops, communal areas and exhibition spaces.
Sport & Leisure
Sir Robert McApline have a long association with the construction of sports stadia. A new state-of-the-art temporary stadium has been constructed that enhances the experience for spectators at the world-renowned Edinburgh Tattoo. The Integrated teamwork was key to the successful delivery of the 2012 Olympic Stadium safely, early and under budget. Teamwork and exemplary management made sure the award-winning Emirates Stadium was in a league of its own. One of the most ambitious gardens ever conceived, the visionary Eden Project is a showcase for global bio-diversity and man’s relationship with plants.Built in a disused clay pit near St Austell, Cornwall, two huge biomes create a living theatre of plants and people. Three climatic zones house more than one million plants representing 5,000 species.
