Delkia Sponsors RAF Team 'Atlantic Rocks' on Fundraising Row Across the Atlantic
Delkia are proud to announce in Armed Forces Week 2023 that we are one of the sponsors of 'Atlantic Rocks' - a team of 4 RAF Regiment Gunners rowing 3,200 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Lanzarote to Antigua, in January 2024, to raise funds for 5 charities: the Centurion Fund; Mental Health Research UK; SSAFA, The Armed Forces Charity, Tough Enough to Care, The Veterans Charity
“Our Mission is so important to us so that we can provide help, support or assistance to our selected charities or organisations in order that they can continue their vital roles.” The Team
The team will row in excess of 1.5 million oar strokes during a race with each rower burning in excess of 5,000 calories a day. The average rower loses around 8kg during a crossing as they face waves that can reach up to 20ft high. The fastest row ever across the Atlantic was achieved in 29 days, 14 hours and 34 minutes, so this is a real test of endurance.
The boat they will be rowing is called Sentinel and is approximately 8 metres long and just under 2 metres wide. It is made of wood, fibreglass, carbon fibre and Kevlar, and is equipped with a watermaker, which change sea water to drinking water, solar panels to power the GPS and other vital electrical equipment including a tracking beacon.
The Skipper (Captain) is Sergeant Phil ‘Gus’ Angus and the rest of the team is made up of Corporal Gary ‘Binnsy’ Bins, Squadron Leader Sam ‘Mitch’ Mitchell and Sergeant Dan Martin.
The teams goal is £50,000 and donations to the team can be made at JustGiving, and more information on the challenge, along with full team profiles can be found at www.Atlantic.Rocks
