DELKIA & AQUILA WORK ON PROJECT FOR THE EUROPEAN SPALLATION SOURCE IN SWEDEN

Delkia has worked with Aquila Nuclear Engineering to design and build the control systems for the shield doors and roof for LoKI at for the European Spallation Source - a multi-disciplinary research facility under construction in Lund, Sweden. LoKI is a small angle neutron scattering (SANS) instrument, pictured below.

Delkia has built the control panels, switches and panels at its Egremont production unit. This includes safety interlocks, with the system interfacing with the plant personnel production system.

Mark Sisson, Director – Clean Energy, said: “Delkia was able to bring our expertise in creating high integrity and safety-critical systems for the nuclear sector and apply it to this emerging field. It has been a collaborative project with Aquila with excellent partnership working.”

The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a European Research Infrastructure Consortium, of which the UK is a member. The project is developing a multi-disciplinary research facility based on the world’s most powerful neutron source. This will enable scientific breakthroughs in research related to materials, energy, health and the environment, and addressing some of the most important societal challenges of all time.
