East of England Businesses Convene to Explore Sizewell C Opportunities: Suffolk Chamber of Commerce Playing a Key Role in Regional Collaboration
Around 1,000 business representatives from all corners of the East of England travelled to Suffolk’s Trinity Park to attend a Sizewell C Supply Chain business exhibition.
Hosted by Suffolk Chamber of Commerce on behalf of Sizewell C, the event was the largest regional Sizewell C Supply Chain event to date, showcasing the breadth of expertise available on the project’s doorstep.
The exhibition featured 50 key exhibitors, ranging from tier 1 organisations who are already delivering major contracts for the project, to educational bodies and training providers, giving businesspeople the opportunity to not only build connections and explore the Sizewell C project further but to also support long term business development and strengthen capabilities.
Nigel Cann, Chief Executive Officer, Sizewell C, said: “The supply chain event was nothing short of inspiring. To see so many people gathered in one room – each eager to play their part in our project – speaks volumes about the ambition and talent within this region. The passion shown by local SMEs and our Tier 1 partners highlights just how important Sizewell C is to the local economy, and how it will transform opportunities for businesses and for those who live and work here.
“Sizewell C truly is a once in a generation opportunity, and the enthusiasm shown at Thursday’s event further demonstrates how this region is ready to grasp it with both hands and make it a success.”
Ashley Shorey-Mills, Supply Chain Engagement Director at Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, added: “This event has been monumental for local businesses, giving them direct access to Sizewell C and Tier 1 contractors, as well as a chance to share ideas, innovation and specialism. The Sizewell C project will be key to the development of the East of England, and businesses that truly embrace this opportunity will benefit greatly. As the project continues to develop, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce looks forward to supporting the region’s supply chain in securing opportunities on Sizewell C.”
The response to the sheer numbers of local businesses attending the exhibition, demonstrates the eagerness for local businesses to support the development of Sizewell C, which will power up to 6 million homes for at least 60 years. The nuclear power project is currently being built on the Suffolk coast.
Lyn Peters, Director of Suffolk Based Engineering Specialists STA Technical, said: “These types of events are increasingly important because we (STA Technical) are in a very niche environment in the sector we serve historically, but in Suffolk and the region there are so many infrastructure projects going on.
“As a company based within the region, you hear everybody talking about Sizewell C and the opportunities available. But to been in an environment where we can talk face to face with these Tier 1 companies, receive their feedback and discuss how our services are transferable to meet their needs, is far better than we ever hoped.”
To date, the Suffolk Chamber Supply Chain Engagement Portal, operating on behalf of Sizewell C, has over 2,900 businesses from the East of England registered, collectively employing 1.25 million people globally.
The portal – available to businesses based within the East of England – provides opportunities for companies to build their networks through the member directory, upskill through pre-recorded business support webinars, and stay informed with the latest project news through regular updates. As a key support pillar, it helps businesses maximise their chances of contributing to the development of the Sizewell C project.
