Exciting News about Steel Dynamics UK Limited

We are excited to share that Steel Dynamics UK Limited (“SDUK”) has entered into a new chapter of ownership under Steel Dynamics Holdings Limited (“SDHL”). On the 29th January 2026, SDHL completed the share acquisition of SDUK from Steel Dynamics Group Limited. 

SDHL is a newly formed group, owned by a consortium of external investors, who have made a significant investment to acquire SDUK and provide it with funding to support its strategic plans. 

The investors are led by Peter Cowgill (former executive CEO/Chairman of JD Sports PLC 2004- 2022) and Ian Johnson (Bolt Industries Limited and Cowgills Limited) who have a strong background in investing and successfully growing businesses. Peter is widely recognised for leading JD Sports’ transformation from a regional retailer into a global sports fashion powerhouse and FTSE 100 company with a market Cap of £14bn. 

Peter will act as Chairman to the new group and Ian Johnson will act as an Executive Group Director to support the existing SDUK management team led by Rob Pattenden and Danny McKinley. 

SDUK has significant potential for growth in sales, in particular in the nuclear sector and this investment marks a fresh start for the business and a defining moment in our journey. It provides a stronger financial platform, enhanced working capital, inward capital investment and the stability needed to support our future ambitions.
