Holtec Britain has submitted its final tender for the Great British Nuclear Small Modular Reactor (SMR) competition

Holtec Britain has submitted its final tender for the Great British Nuclear Small Modular Reactor (SMR) competition.

The SMR-300, based on proven Pressurised Water Reactor technology, will support the UK’s long-term industrial strategy and clean energy ambitions.

As part of its commitment to economic growth, Holtec plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in South Yorkshire—close to Sheffield Forgemasters—helping to create a world-class nuclear manufacturing cluster. This would form the foundation of a UK-based export hub for the SMR-300. Holtec recently received authorisation from the US Government to export the SMR-300 to India, marking a significant step for international deployment—following a similar announcement for Ukraine last year.

The UK is also set to benefit from the experience gained through the SMR-300 deployment at Palisades, near Covert, Michigan. As a second-of-a-kind deployment—alongside India and Ukraine—the UK is well positioned to join a global coalition of countries adopting the SMR-300, enabling shared supply chains and driving long-term economic growth.

Gareth Thomas, Director at Holtec Britain, said:

The UK has the opportunity to lead the world in next-generation clean energy. Holtec Britain is ready—with proven technology and established international partners, including Hyundai E&C and Mitsubishi Electric, with a clear commitment to supporting economic growth.”
