Race for £490m North West & Central railway jobs

Network Rail has started the hunt for firms to deliver £490m of large project works for control period 7 in its north west and central territory.

Procurement chiefs aim to let several frameworks covering the “Backbone of Britain” route and this latest tender round covers procurement phase two known as Framework Category A.

Procurement for phase one – Framework Categories B,C & D – is being conducted separately and has already gone out to the market.

The large project Category A workbank is being split between two separate lots.

This covers projects ranging from £7m – £200m (Lot A1) and £7m- £50m (Lot A2) with two contractors set to be appointed for each lot.

Firms tendering will need capability to deliver multi-disciplinary works and services across: civil engineering, buildings and railway engineering, the latter comprising signalling, permanent way, telecoms and electrification work.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 28 July with shortlisted firms sent invitations to tender on 22 September. Contractors will be appointed in February 2024.
