Views of business cluster sought for Family, Privately-owned and Owner-Managed Business Survey

BECBC members are being urged to take part in a survey to help provide vital insights into the challenges they face, their plans for growth and the opportunities available to them.

Cumbrian Accountants, Business and Financial Advisers, Armstrong Watson, have again launched their much-anticipated Family, Privately-owned and Owner-Managed Business Survey, which is the fifth of its kind.

The firm, which gained 500 responses in its previous survey report 2024, is hoping that this year’s will be the biggest to date, and business owners across the UK are being invited to take part by completing a series of multiple-choice questions.

The survey is designed to provide a unique insight into the inner workings of family, privately owned and owner-managed companies in areas including people, digitalisation and technology, innovation and growth, and planning to let go.

Many businesses are grappling with fluctuating supply chain prices and international tariff uncertainty, in addition to increased employment costs and how to navigate succession planning tax changes. Some might also be planning growth in the coming years and adopting advancements in technology, resulting in a need for differing types of support and greater financial resources.

As with previous surveys, the results will be used to spot trends, highlighting issues and opportunities and areas where businesses may need assistance. Armstrong Watson will also compare the latest responses to the feedback published in the 2024 report. [JA1] The full summary is then compiled into a free downloadable report - as well as focused findings on specific regions and sectors - and distributed to key influential stakeholders across the UK to ensure that the views of the family, privately owned and owner-managed business community are heard and are front of mind.

Paul Dickson, Armstrong Watson’s Chief Executive and Managing Partner, said: “Privately owned, family and owner-managed businesses are the lifeblood of our communities, and by contributing to this survey, business owners will give us an even greater understanding of the concerns and aspirations of arguably the most important sector of our economy.

“We are keen to hear from as many businesses as possible, including members of the business cluster, as it’s crucial we take the time to listen and take stock. It is only by understanding current issues and trends, as with our previous surveys, that we as advisers are best placed to help businesses to grow, innovate and stand the test of time.”

Armstrong Watson has supported and advised family, privately owned and owner-managed businesses for more than 158 years through accountancy, tax and strategic advice around growth, succession and helping the next generation flourish.

The survey is now live and any family, privately-owned or owner-managed business wishing to take part can do so by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NW3KB3L Anyone completing the survey also has the opportunity to enter a draw to win a £200 Amazon voucher.
