How to thrive in New Nuclear: Collaboration

How to thrive in New Nuclear: Collaboration

The Hinkley PSG invites you to join us for a roundtable discussion and networking on the topic of Collaboration in New Nuclear. Themes that we shall be exploring and will be inviting you to share your experience and challenges with, include:

What are the main causes of claims and disputes between Client and supply chain partners?

According to data held by HKA ‘Crux Insight’ database , the top three reasons for contract disputes in the Nuclear sector across Europe are;

  • Contract Interpretation issues
  • Poor management of subcontractors/supplier and /or their interfaces
  • Joint third - Contract Management and/or administration failure; Design information was issued late; Design was incorrect.

The HKA ‘Crux Insight’ database, contains 1800+ projects, taken from 6 sectors, (43 Sub-sectors) from more than 106 countries across the world. We shall explore the key lessons that we can learn from the data that will improve ‘collaboration’ between client and contractor.

What are the characteristics of high-performance projects/contracts?

Based on the experience of working across the energy and utilities sector, three key elements must be in place to create an environment for high performance projects,

  • Clarity
  • Accountability
  • Measurement

We shall explore the role of leadership in facilitating these key elements and the barriers that prevent these key elements being present.

How can you develop the right collaborative behaviours between the client and contractor?

Organisation culture and the behaviours of people play a significant role in developing effective and successful relationships. If the people working in the partnership do not share common values and exhibit appropriate behaviours, a culture of mistrust and difference, (them and us) will develop which will undermine everything the partnership sets out to achieve.

We will look at good and bad examples of collaboration and identify what we can each take away, that will help to improve behaviours and collaboration in your contracts with supply chain partners.

How can SME’s develop effective partnerships?

Very often the Nuclear industry creates opportunities for small and medium size enterprises (SME’s) to come together, in partnership, to create a solution for a Tier 1 contractor. But forming effective partnerships can be illusive and we shall explore the tips for creating an effective partnership, how to avoid the pitfalls and explore how to create a long-term sustainable partnership by focusing on the end customer.

  • What are the different types of business partnership?
  • What makes a successful partnership?
  • The potential pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • A focus on supply chain Partnerships
