Ansaldo Nuclear joins consortium demonstrating the commercial viability of fusion energy
Ansaldo Nuclear has been selected to join a consortium of fusion specialists led by Atkins and Assystem, working on UK Atomic Energy Authority's project to demonstrate the commercial viability of fusion energy.
Over the next two years, the consortium will complete concept designs that are critical for UKAEA to push ahead with the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) programme, which aims to construct a commercial-scale prototype fusion energy plant by 2040.
Ansaldo Nuclear is aligned with UKAEA in the belief that fusion technology has the potential to provide abundant, low-carbon energy – maintaining the UK’s net zero efforts in the long-term and underpinning future energy security.
We are looking forward to proving that the future is fusion alongside Atkins, Assystems, Oxford Sigma and Kyoto Fusioneering.
