ILL’s Tritium Gas Analysis Station is used to quantify the amount of 3H in gas samples taken in and around the structures of the nuclear reactor. It consists of a pump, pressure gauges, an analysis chamber, a high voltage supply, preamplifier, and electronics to calculate the activity and display the result. ILL is looking to upgrade the equipment currently in use and would like to hear from suppliers interested in assisting.
The pump is used to create a depression in the chamber to 1 bar below atmospheric pressure. Currently, this is measured via needle gauges, but ILL now require digital gauges that can be removed for calibration. The gas sample is attached to the chamber via a fixed inox line which is put under depression. The change in pressure allows the gas to be pulled into the chamber where it is measured through the use of ionization, pre-amplification and electronics.
The materials used in the construction must be replaceable and able to be disconnected for maintenance and calibration either internally at ILL or externally. The station must be able to analyse samples that are low in quantity of gas and allow for dilution or a return of the chamber to atmospheric pressure via the injection of gases such as azote to fill the chamber for a homogenized count. It must be able to measure in the range of MBq/m3 to at least GBq/m3. A maintenance contract would be necessary including a fast turnaround for calibration of parts. Replacement parts must be readily available with a requirement of a rapid changeover if in case of a part-failure.
