Leadership....Keeping on an even Keel
Todays session was incredibly insightful, I always say I am new to leadership but in reality, I have been acting in leadership roles since as young as 14 when I first had the privilege of captaining my youth rugby side. But I am new to leadership every time I attend anything on the subject because every time, I see it in a new light and today was no different.
Sharon talked through her experiences of leadership (good and bad!) which helped us to see how acts as a leader, weather that be in how she presents herself and working attitude through to simply how she handles her direct reports. The session was not short of sailing analogies which I enjoyed having not long returned from another stint in the Aegean, but this really helped bring things to life for me and I'm sure the rest of the group would agree as Sharon's passion for what she does really shone through.
Sharon's amazing delivery was matched by the input from the group with some good deep diving into theory, experience and reflection which helped to create a holistic view of how leadership was viewed in the room.
I have taken a lot from this session and look forward to implementing in my new role as SB Chair and in potential future roles. The key factor I took from today's session though was realising the value in good leadership and how it can completely shape viewpoints on working life, and has the potential to impact the attitude of an employee throughout their career.
